5 easy eco changes for 2018

5 easy eco changes for 2018

#1
Put a "No Junk Mail" sticker on your postbox- reduce time sorting it into recycling and save thousands of trees.

#2
Go paperless on your bills. Contact your service providers, (electricity, mobile phone, banking) and change to paperless billing- reduce overwhelm in your inbox and save thousands of trees.

#3
Turn off your electronics when not in use. A computer left on for 24 hours can use a lot of electricity – up to 1000 kilowatts. And, even when your TV or computer is off, it is still using power. Either unplug all your electronic devices or use a power strip and flip of the switch when you’re done.

#4
Change lightbulbs to compact flourescent/LED (same thing). These bulbs are bright and come on quickly unlike the old type eco bulbs. Go around your house with a notepad and make a list of all the different types of bulbs you need. It can be quite overwhelming in the shop trying to pick out the correct bulbs so visit an online store ie. http://bit.ly/2mRMdOc and decide what you need. Either purchase online or make a clear list. Although an initial cost CF/LED bulbs have a lifespan of 8,000 hours compared to 750 hours of traditional incandescent bulbs. If you cannot affford the expense all at once choose the areas that are in use most.

#5
Replace some of the everyday plastic items you use; buy a reusable take away coffee cup, (according to the Irish Times 2 million disposable coffee cups are sent to landfill in Ireland every day) buy a foldable shopping bag that you can keep in your handbag/on your keyring or in your car so you don't end up buying a bag when you forget. Consider buying a bamboo toothbrush or a set of reusable straws. Try The little green shop online store
