Our Story
Founded in 2012 by Mary and Roy Bermingham, Burren Nature Sanctuary was created with a vision to protect and celebrate the rich ecology of the Burren.
Our 50 acre organic farm is now a thriving sanctuary, home to protected wildflower meadows, native woodland, rewilded karst limestone, a diverse botany collection, and a rare disappearing lake.
Every step through the sanctuary reveals a story of conservation, from our carefully preserved wildflower meadow to the rescued animals that call this place home.

To protect and nurture our unique 50-acre site, safeguarding diverse habitats, plants, and wildlife from karst and woodland to wetland and meadow species.
To support the Living Collection of Burren Flora and the Burren Native Nursery for education, seed saving, and habitat regeneration in partnership with Galway University and the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin.
To ignite joy to engage people beyond the existing conservation community through magical experiences: Wild Cabins, Burren Botany Walk, and Meet the Mini Pigs, our surprising little heroes who capture hearts and draw new audiences into a love of nature!
