At Burren Nature Sanctuary, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As guardians of a precious Burren landscape, we are dedicated to protecting biodiversity, conserving native habitats, and minimising our environmental impact.
Protecting Biodiversity
We are devoted to mitigating the biodiversity emergency in Ireland. Our 50-acre organic farm is a sanctuary for wildlife, with 25 acres of rewilding, a conservation-managed wildflower meadow, a native woodland, and a protected wetland. We work to preserve the delicate balance of Burren ecosystems, providing a safe haven for plants, pollinators, and native species.
Sustainable Land Management
For over 30 years, our land has been certified organic and free from chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Through careful habitat restoration, we support rare and endangered flora and encourage natural regeneration, ensuring a thriving environment for future generations.
Eco-Friendly Visitor Experience
We are committed to reducing waste and promoting responsible tourism. Our café sources local, organic ingredients where possible, and we encourage visitors to minimise waste by bringing reusable containers and taking rubbish home.
Education and Advocacy
Through our guided experiences, interpretation exhibits, and partnerships with conservation organisations, we aim to inspire a love for nature and empower visitors to take action for the environment. We actively contribute to seed-saving initiatives and collaborate on biodiversity research to deepen our impact.
